The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau announced today, in a statement, that it had issued an international arrest warrant against Domingos Simões Pereira, leader of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC).
“The Public Ministry reports that it has already issued an international arrest warrant against the citizen Domingos Simões Pereira, in the context of a criminal proceeding that follows the legal procedures in this judicial institution that holds the criminal action,” reads the statement.
Domingos Simões Pereira has been in Portugal for several months, having recently traveled to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Alpha Conde, President of Guinea-Conakry, a neighboring country of Guinea-Bissau, which took place on Tuesday.
Simões Pereira disputed the presidential elections at the end of last year with the current President, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, who assumed power without waiting for the result of the electoral dispute that took place in the Supreme Court of Justice.
