USA: Zoom prepares to be the new rival of Google and Microsoft

According to a report now released, the company is about to enter the area of email and calendar (where Google and Microsoft dominate).

After gaining massive expression in 2020, the Zoom videoconferencing platform is now intending to expand, namely in key areas that could make it a  direct competitor to the giants Google and Microsoft.

Taking advantage of the unprecedented growth that it experienced during the pandemic, the company is working on new services and everything indicates that the first bet is directed to an email service and calendars.

With Microsoft bringing together a set of tools in Office 365 and Google in its GSuite or Workspace, the route seems obvious for the Zoom platform, which also intends to add some essential features nowadays.

However, emails and calendars appear to be only part of the company’s expansion strategy, and job ads that are active mention the integration of services like Asana and Dropbox – key applications for telecommuting.

Also in the existing technology,  the platform has been improving and created a new version of its program for Macs, designed for the new Apple computers with the M1 chip, which should use a lower percentage of battery.

With increasing competition and the clear need for these platforms in the future, Zoom has been expanding, gaining millions of new customers in 2020 and rising 423% in market value in just one year. It is hoped that Zoom’s new strategy may include the acquisition of other companies or even be acquired by one of the technological giants.

It is recalled that Salesforce acquired Slack, another collaborative platform that became even more important during the pandemic (although without Zoom’s success). The big obstacle for Salesforce to buy Zoom is to expand the rivalry with Microsoft and with the Teams service at this point, it really seems to be the price.
