Luanda – the Angolan musician Waldemar Bastos, who died on Monday, a victim of a disease, is going to be buried this Thursday afternoon, in Portugal.
According to a family publication, made on the artist’s official page (Facebook), the funeral will be at the Galicia Cemetery, in Estoril.
The text says that this ceremony inside the cemetery will be limited to the family only.
However, he realizes that, between 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm today, “there will be an opportunity to pay the last tribute to his family and friends, at the Amphitheater of Parque dos Poetas in Oeiras”, in an act open to the public.
To this end, the family appeals to respect the measures to prevent and combat Covid-19.

Waldemar dos Santos Alonso de Almeida Bastos, known as Waldemar Bastos, was born in M’Banza Kongo, capital of Zaire province, on January 4, 1954.
He started singing at a very early age, using his father’s instruments. After independence in 1975, he headed for Portugal.
He was one of Angola’s most notable musicians independently, alongside big names such as Barcelo de Carvalho Bonga, Elias Dya Kimuezu, Alberto Teta Lando, Ruy Mingas, André Mingas, Filipe Mukenga, among other classical voices.
In more than 40 years of his career, he was distinguished with a Founding Member Diploma from the Union of Artists and Composers (UNAC-SA) and with an Award Award, in 1999, by World Music.
Owner of an unmistakable voice and compositions of great patriotic value, he worked with several renowned artists in the world, including Chico Buarque, Dulce Pontes, David Byrne, Arto Lindsay, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
In his various travels around the world, he had the privilege of performing with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, moments that the artist came to consider the most striking of his career.
A lover of Bee Gees and Carlos Santana, he received, in 2018, the National Prize for Culture and Arts, the noblest cultural distinction of the Republic of Angola.
In 2017, he was considered International Musician and Singer of the year, at the 10th Meeting of Mozambican Writers in the Diaspora, in Lisbon, when he was praised for defending democracy and human rights.
