Angola: Officials in the reform and widows of combatants give ultimatum to the President of the Republic

On the eve of Christmas Day, general and superior officers, war widows in Angola issue a new ultimatum to President João Lourenço in which they demand the payment of a debt estimated at over one hundred billion kwanzas.

The group threatens to take to the streets and take the case to the Supreme Court if there is no response from the President.

On December 12, the Association of Retired Generals, Superiors, Captains and Subaltern Officers was called by the defense minister João Ernesto Liberdade, who promised his officials the payment of the debt, which has not yet happened,

Senior officers give a deadline of up to 10 January.

“Our patience has come to an end, we will wait until 10 January, we want satisfactory answers if we don’t go to the streets and if the Executive refuses to pay the debt we will go to the Supreme Court and demand the payment of the debt in full, they are 130 million kwanzas, this time we will no longer accept curves, we will go to Feira Popular street until there where it hurts the most ”, said José Limuqueno.

Retirement Major Jose Vieira da Costa added: “I’m ashamed to identify myself in my neighborhood as a major, my neighbors have luxury cars, me not even a bicycle, which major? The President meets with Kudurists, with young people, etc., but he never meets with retired senior officers ”.

João Baptista, a senior officer in the reform, warns the Head of State to pay attention.

“We are warning the President of the Republic to listen to us, stay tuned, and treat us with dignity and respect, we liberated the country, but we were forgotten”, he lamented.

The widows of former senior officers affiliated with the association also want answers from the President of the Republic.

“I have been a widow since 1999, my husband died, he was the second commander of the military police, I, as a widow under 50, have no right to receive money from my late husband who fought for this land, today his children suffer, they don’t study, they dropped out of school, we don’t have a house, they cut the money, how are we going to live? ”, laments in the form of a question Maria Helena Domingos, who says she only wants to know“ if the President of the Republic João Lourenço ordered us to cut our widow’s pension ”.

They give a deadline of until January 10 to pay a debt of 130 million kwanzas
