Angola: The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) investigates allegations of irregularities at PIIM

According to Angop, which cites the prosecutor of the province of Moxico, Adão do Nascimento, who confirmed the receipt of a series of complaints about irregularities and lack of transparency in the implementation of the Integrated Plan of Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM).

 Official data indicate that the province of Moxico has registered in the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), 105 social and economic projects in the nine municipalities, estimated at more than 15 billion Kwanzas, with a physical execution of around 38, 33 percent. For Adão do Nascimento, it is up to this body, holder of the criminal action, to determine the progress of the management and possible non-compliance in the hiring of companies that are executing the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) in the nine municipalities of the province.

 The public prosecutor avoided specifying the number of inquiries made but said that they were extended to the nine municipalities in the province. Adão do Nascimento exemplified that, from the steps taken, it was possible to verify that many projects in the different municipalities have already benefited from the total payment, in contrast to the physical execution of the works.

The investigations clarified the magistrate, aim to ascertain the reasons for the disparities verified and not to conclude immediately by the existence of crimes. Adão do Nascimento lamented the lack of cooperation from some public and private institutions, mainly municipal administrations and commercial banks, for delaying providing information to the Attorney General’s Office to speed up the investigation.
