Angola: UNITA says company linked to MPLA is at the center of corruption in Angola

Opposition politicians say that in Angola there is no fight against corruption until companies linked to the MPLA itself are investigated.

UNITA deputy Joaquim Nafoia said that “the epicenter of corruption in Angola, cancer, the turntable of corruption is GEFI” – Management Company and Financial Participations, linked to the ruling party.

“All acts of theft, corruption and looting of public money go through GEFI, there is no strategic company in the country, with no connection to GEFI,” said Nafoia, who added that “as long as it is not properly investigated by an independent parliamentary committee or serious and credible judicial process, there is no fight against corruption in Angola ”.

The Black Cock congressman says that an investigation by his party is currently underway to ascertain the intricacies of corruption in the country, and says that what happens today with media trials is nothing more than electoral strategy.

“That of judging Zenu Dos Santos, Joaquim Sebastião, Kopelipa, General Dino, Rabelais, and even Manuel Vicente himself is to whiten the regime’s image because the essentials are not being changed. Everything has to go through an investigation to GEFI ”, he said.

“There is nothing important strategic in the country without going through this GEFI, no commercial bank in Angola works without connections to this conglomerate of the regime’s party, investors who arrive in the country before starting in any branch go through GEFI and this is what guides with whom they should do business, ”he said.

Another deputy but independent, Makuta Nkondo, says that he does not believe that someone linked to corruption can fight himself.

“The example comes from above, we cannot say that the presidential couple is exactly poor, the President himself also ate with José Eduardo dos Santos and the Edwardians he accuses of being corrupt today were colleagues,” said Nkondo to whom even the current collaborators of the current President does not have a “clean slate”.

The economist linked to the PRS, Sapalo António, is of the same opinion stating that he understands that no corrupt person is going to fight himself.

VOA tried to contact some figures linked to the MPLA between deputies, university professors, and businessmen, but we were not attended to talk about this subject.
